Summary of New Members' Orientation Class
Welcome to the Family

Session 1: Purpose - to make potential new members feel at ease; to provide a historical background for the 
                  Churches
of  Christ in general and Providence Road in particular so that they can gain a better appreciation of our
                 
heritage.

1. Introductions.
2. Thumb nail sketch of the American Restoration Movement.
3. Review of Providence Road's history.
4. Review PR organizational chart.

 

Session 2: Purpose - to orient new members to PR's core beliefs; to introduce our "Mission" and our "Vision".

1. Three supporting pillars: biblical - rooted and grounded in Scripture for our faith; historical - take heritage seriously; relevancy - confirm that the ancient Word is pertinent today.
2. Six planks of our bridge of faith: sovereignty of God; inspiration of the Holy Spirit; church as the body of Christ.
3. Mission statement: "We will glorify God in Charlotte and beyond by bringing people to Jesus, maturing them into a loving community of disciples and equipping them for service in Christ's name."

 

Session 3: Purpose - to assist new members in the assimilation process by sharing our expectations of them and what they 
                   can expect from us.

1. Four hour expectation: worship, Bible study, service and LifeGroup.
2. General expectations: supportive of leadership; share responsibilities at PR; give financially; no gossip or immoral behavior; problems with the direction of PR brought directly to leadership; problems within the congregation resolved through scriptural process.
3. Review what members can expect from PR in return: to know that shepherds are watching out for your soul, to be given opportunities to be involved in the work of the church, to have the chance to grow in your spiritual journey, to receive instruction, fellowship, and discipline when needed.

 

Session 4: Purpose - to discuss how one discovers their spiritual gifts and to review opportunities for service in current
                   ministries.

1. Review of Spiritual gifts inventory.
2. Review list of ministries and other items of information in the hand-out packets.
3. Complete the Family Info and New Member Cards.
4. Take photos of those deciding to place membership.
